Pearls are considered to be one of the rarest gems which really made it a luxury exclusive for the rich and famous. But now, cultured pearls are now made more available to all. It now more affordable and pearl culturization brought more types of pearls to choose from. There may be a lot of options now but the standards of choosing a good quality pearl stays the same as it was a thousand years ago. There are six factors to remember when buying pearls namely, the pearl luster, shape, size, color, su***ce texture and the thickness of the nacre. These factors would help you distinguish a good quality pearl from a fake one. High quality pearls exudes a very brilliant sheen with a warm glow when the light reflects its delicate layers. It has been known that Akoya saltwater pearls are more lustrous that Tahitian or South Sea pearls. Tahitian and South Sea pearls tend to have a more softer brilliance than that of Akoya pearls. Pearls could be categorized in two colors namely the light colored and the dark colored. Light colored includes pearls in the shades of white, gold and cream or off-white. On the other hand, black pearls are classified as dark colored and considered to be more precious than light colored ones. One could determine the quality of pearls by observing its su***ce. Good pearls have a smooth su***ce and are perfectly round in shape. It has very few or no visible imperfections at all. Low quality pearls tend to have more su***ce imperfections such as pits and scratches. To wrap up, always be careful when buying pearls.
